DEADLINE: SEJ Awards for Reporting on the Environment

The Society of Environmental Journalists' annual Awards for Reporting on the Environment honor the best environmental journalism in 10 categories, bringing recognition to the most important stories on the planet.

First-place winners receive $500, a trophy and a certificate in all categories. Winners of second place receive $250 and a certificate. Third place and honorable mentions receive a certificate.  

The Nina Mason Pulliam Award for the "best of the best" environmental reporting will award $10,000 to one entry selected from the first-place winners of SEJ's Awards for Reporting on the Environment. The prize also includes travel, registration and hotel expenses (up to $2500) for the winner, or representatives of the winning team, to attend SEJ's annual conference and be recognized at the awards presentation ceremony.

DEADLINE TO ENTER: June 30, 2025

Late entry is allowed, with extra fee, until July 15, 2025, 11:59 p.m. ET.

Allowable entries:

  • Stories from May 1, 2024 through April 30, 2025
  • Books: 2024 copyright year
