The First SEJ North Texas Meetup!

Event Date:
March 24, 2017

This is the first meetup for SEJ members and environmental journalists in the North Texas region. Come meet others who are part of SEJ, join the group if you aren't already a member, and talk about the craft of science and environmental journalism.

About SEJ: "SEJ's reputation for excellence, service, and integrity has been built upon annual conferences hosted by distinguished universities, scores of regional events, unique publications, on-line services, in-the-newsroom training sessions, and an extensive membership network."

We hope to promote the SEJ mission through regional meetups throughout the year that will bring us together for an ideas watering-hole-style discussion. This gathering is intended to be a place where we can share ideas, talk about the state of environmental journalism today, and get to know each other.

The first North Texas meeting is scheduled on the anniversary of the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil spill, which poured more than 10 million gallons of oil into Prince William Sound off the coast of Alaska. Nearly 30 years later, let's take a moment to reflect on what this event meant for our environment, how reparation and clean-up were handled, and how to think about the risk associated with oil transport as we move into an uncertain energy future.
