DEADLINE: Jefferson Fellowships for Journalists

Founded by the East-West Center in 1967, the Jefferson Fellowships offer print, broadcast and online journalists from the United States, Asia and the Pacific Islands the unique opportunity to gain on-the-ground perspectives and build international networks to enhance their reporting through an intensive education and dialogue seminar at the East-West Center in Honolulu followed by a reporting tour in the Asia Pacific-U.S. region.

About the Jefferson Fellowships: U.S. and Asia Pacific journalists participate in a three-week study, dialogue and travel reporting program to deepen their knowledge of key regional issues and build international networks to enhance coverage of the Asia Pacific region.

Who Can Apply: Working print, broadcast or online journalists from the United States or an eligible Asia Pacific country or territory. Five years of experience preferred. English fluency required. 
 
Funding: Funding for the Jefferson Fellowships is provided by the Freeman Foundation, the Mary Morgan Hewett Fund, the East-West Center, and cost-sharing contributions by Fellows and their news organizations. These funds provide for 10-14 full or partial scholarships, including approximately 2-4 for qualified American journalists and 8-10 for Asia Pacific journalists.

All Fellows must pay an USD$800.00 program fee to cover costs not provided by the scholarship funds. Fellows are also responsible for all applicable visa fees and visa-related expenses, health insurance, and baggage fees.
