National Invasive Species Awareness Week
The North American Invasive Species Management Association (NAISMA) announces National Invasive Species Awareness Week (NISAW).
NISAW is an international event to raise awareness about invasive species, the threat that they pose and what can be done to prevent their spread. Organized by NAISMA, NISAW encourages representatives from local, state, federal and regional organizations to discuss legislation, policies, resources and improvements that can be made to prevent and manage invasive species.
Last year, NAISMA held a series of virtual webinars that reached more than 1,650 people. Communities across North America hosted local outreach and management events, and three governors — in Washington, Colorado and Nebraska — proclaimed invasive species awareness weeks in their states.
Local stories from field practitioners can be the most transformative. Reach out to our communications manager Tina Casagrand (tcasagrand@naisma.org) if you need leads or contacts from our 500+ members and partner organizations across the U.S. and Canada.
At the U.S. national level, NAISMA educates elected officials, decision makers and the public on how they can help to stop the spread of invasive species and protect the country’s lands and waters.
When: February 28 - March 4, 2022
