SEJ's 32nd Annual Conference takes place April 19-23, 2023, hosted by Boise State University.

Idaho bridges more than the continental divide: A red state with a streak of bright purple, Idaho banks on tech, recreation and agriculture. Its history of logging, ranching and mining has left a complicated legacy on its awe-inspiring landscape. In Boise, America’s fastest growing city, you can ski and golf on the same winter day. But the challenges and opportunities facing state and tribal governments are familiar: urban sprawl, limited resources, energy sources and conserving the wild for future generations.

We’ll be exploring these issues and more at our 32nd annual conference and hope to see you there! We’ve lined up three affordable hotel options for #SEJ2023, and it’s never too early to secure your room under SEJ’s special rates.

Registration is open! Check out the draft agenda, sponsor/exhibit/advertise and register soon to get your choice of workshops and tours — everything is filling in record time this year. Book your room; we’ve lined up affordable hotel options for #SEJ2023 with SEJ’s special low rates.

IJNR Post-Conference Tour: Connecting North America's Big Wild
April 23-27

The 2023 Connected Landscapes Institute would allow up to 15 journalists to explore the importance of connected landscapes between the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem (GYE) and Idaho’s High Divide. It’s an area critically important to such iconic species as grizzly bears, gray wolves, bison, elk, wolverines and lynx, but also one with broader impacts to global biodiversity. Yet few protections exist in those areas. Pressure is increasing to extract such commodities as oil, gas and precious metals, and the Western ethos of local control remains a powerful presence. The 2023 SEJ post-conference tour, conducted by the Institute for Journalism & Natural Resources, or IJNR, will focus on the science behind wildlife corridors, the cultural and economic obstacles they face, and the future of vast ecosystems in North America. The post-conference tour will take journalists from Boise to Yellowstone National Park and back, with various stops along the way to discuss conservation measures and their potential obstacles.

Stay tuned for information on registration, sponsorship opportunities and more this Fall!
