Tom Pelton: Blue Collar Environmentalism and the Red/Blue Divide
Journalist and author Tom Pelton will speak about how focusing on nuts and bolts issues like litter, sewage, and septic systems can help bridge the divide between 'red' and 'blue' America over environmental issues. The talk will be followed by questions and comments from attendees.

Tom Pelton, a national award-winning environmental journalist, has hosted the public radio program and podcast "The Environment in Focus" since 2007. He is also author of the book "The Chesapeake in Focus," published by Johns Hopkins University Press in 2018. In addition to his writing and public radio work, Pelton also serves as Director of Communications for the Environmental Integrity Project, a Washington, D.C.-based non-profit organization dedicated to enforcing environmental laws and strengthening policy to protect public health. From 1997 until 2008, Pelton was a journalist for The Baltimore Sun, where he was twice named one of the best environmental reporters in America by the Society of Environmental Journalists. Before that, he was a correspondent for The Boston Globe and a staff reporter for The Chicago Tribune, and has also published in Yankee magazine, Harvard Magazine, The Washington Post and other publications. He lives in Baltimore with his wife, Liz, and two daughters, and enjoys kayaking, fishing, and playing the guitar poorly but loudly.
