"The major winter storm that has left hundreds of thousands in the southern USA without power is blazing a trail up the East Coast."
"At least 12 deaths across the South were blamed on the weather as a snowy Thursday is forecast for most of the eastern U.S., from the Carolinas to Maine, according to AccuWeather.
Snow totals varied widely early Thursday -- some areas around Washington, D.C., Baltiimore and Philadelphia were reporting 6-7 inches while some of their close-in, northern and western suburbs already had more than a foot of snow. And more was on the way, National Weather Service meteorologist Brian Korty warned."
John Bacon and Kim Hjelmgaard report for USA TODAY February 13, 2014.
