"Homeowners' Suit Blames Pratt & Whitney for Acreage Cancer Cluster"

"WEST PALM BEACH — Four households in The Acreage filed a federal lawsuit Wednesday night alleging that pollution by defense contractor Pratt & Whitney is responsible for the cancer cluster that has caused fear and anger in the pastoral community in central Palm Beach County.

The class-action suit is the first litigation filed regarding the cancer cases since the state Department of Health began investigating them last summer — but it may not be the last.

Last week, health officials acknowledged that The Acreage indeed has elevated rates of brain cancer in children and teenagers. They've yet to identify a cause. "

Mitra Malek and Jose Lambiet report for the Palm Beach Post February 10, 2010.
