"Morganza Spillway Has Nine of 125 Bays Open"

"The Army Corps of Engineers has opened eight more bays on the Morganza Spillway after opening a single bay Saturday afternoon, part of the corps’ strategy to gradually increase the flow from the rain-swollen Mississippi River into the Atchafalaya basin.

With nine 28-foot-wide bays open, about 90,000 cubic feet of water per second is being diverted from the Mississippi to take pressure off the levees in Baton Rouge and New Orleans."
