New Jersey: "EPA Announces $46.7M Ringwood Cleanup Plan"

"Almost 200,000 tons of contaminated soil would be removed from the 500-acre Ringwood Superfund site — where the Ford Motor Co. dumped toxic paint sludge from its Mahwah factory 40 years ago — under a proposal issued Monday by federal environmental officials."

"But the $46.7 million cleanup of lead, arsenic, benzene and other toxic substances also would leave tens of thousands of tons of pollution under a protective cap at some parts of the site, angering many Ramapough Indians who have called the area home for centuries and say they have been sickened by the pollution.

'It’s ridiculous that my family and my clan are going to forever live on top of a toxic Superfund site,' said Vincent Mann, Turtle Clan chief for the Ramapough Lenape Nation. 'This community has been violated for the last 49 years. Everything should be cleaned up.'"
