"Oregon's Senate shot down a bill this morning that would have banned a potential endocrine-disrupting chemical from baby bottles and sippy cups, splitting 15-15 on a ban that Washington's Legislature has endorsed with lopsided votes.
Opponents to a ban on bottles and sippy cups including bisphenol-A, or BPA, said the market was already taking care of the problem, with an estimated 90 percent of the bottles and sippy cups offered in Oregon now BPA-free.
They also warned the ban in Senate Bill 1032 could be a first step toward banning the chemical from the lining of canned products, which they said would hurt Oregon food processors."
