"Manufacturers would have to report PFAS in their products to the state of Maine under a proposed regulation that is being closely watched by industry, advocacy groups, and other states.
The rule is in the spotlight because it would implement a law banning PFAS and could end up as a model for other states.
This is the first PFAS law and regulation to be this broad and far-reaching, said Sara Chamberlain, a partner focusing on environmental risks, regulation, and liabilities at Thompson Coburn LLP.
Amazon.com Inc., Campbell Soup Co., the Coca-Cola Co., Costco Wholesale Corp., HP Inc., Raytheon Technologies Corp., and the Walt Disney Co. are some of more 2,400 companies and trade associations that Maine’s Department of Environmental Protection says it has exempted from immediate compliance with the reporting requirement, which went into effect on Jan. 1."
