"State Probe Into Acreage Cancer Cluster Ends With No Cause Found"

"THE ACREAGE -- The state probe into what might have caused a cancer cluster in The Acreage is over -- with no cause found.

A year and a half's investigation involving state and federal agencies came to a close Wednesday when Florida's environmental health director said the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention had signed off on the state's work.

'We've put in our efforts to finding an environmental cause,' state Environmental Health Director Lisa Conti said during a monthly call with legislators.

And no cause has been found to explain the central Palm Beach County community's elevated rates of childhood cancers of the brain and central nervous system, Conti said. Health officials have said the community experienced four such cases from 2005 through 2007, when only one or two would have been considered normal for that size population."
