"Tropical Depression Fred was crossing over the large Caribbean island of Hispaniola on Wednesday when it was downgraded from tropical storm status. It then moved farther across the island on Wednesday night and back across water early Thursday morning as a poorly organized tropical depression. However, AccuWeather forecasters warn that the system has the potential to restrengthen to tropical storm force once it moves along the coast of Cuba later in the week. It will then skirt just west of Florida this weekend on a path toward landfall in the southeastern United States early next week, potentially making two U.S. landfalls.
AccuWeather forecasters have rated Fred a 1 on the AccuWeather RealImpact Scale™ for the United States. Damaging winds and coastal flooding are both likely to result from Fred, but AccuWeather forecasters are most concerned by the threat of excessive rainfall and flooding that could ensue if the storm slows down significantly over the southeastern U.S. as predicted."
