"Trump voters are more likely to live in the parts of the United States most vulnerable to climate change.
Whether it's rising sea levels in Florida, deadly heat waves in Texas or drought in the Southwest, red-state voters are in general more at risk than voters in blue states, a new analysis has found.
In particular, rural voters — where support for President Trump is strongest — were more likely to experience the effects of climate change, according to the Brookings Institution analysis. They're at risk of bodily harm through heat waves and extreme storm events, as well as economic damages from lost livelihoods and property damage.
"They are more exposed. That's because more of their work is at risk. Rural areas tend to have more outdoor activities as part of the economic base, activities like farming, cutting trees and so on," said David Victor, a senior fellow in the Foreign Policy Program at Brookings and a professor of international relations at the School of Global Policy and Strategy at the University of California, San Diego."
