SEJ Member Spotlight: Brandon Loomis

SEJ member Brandon Loomis has just won the 2012 Grantham Prize for Excellence in Reporting on the Environment. Brandon and his colleagues, photographer Rick Egan and editor David Noyce, will receive the US$75,000 award for this "measured and exhaustive series about the causes of the decline of ancient conifer forests stretching from New Mexico northward to the Canadian border," which ran in The Salt Lake Tribune.

Brandon is the public lands reporter for The Salt Lake Tribune. He is a graduate of the University of Nebraska College of Journalism and was a 1993-94 Ted Scripps Graduate Fellow in Environmental Journalism at the University of Michigan. He grew up in Ketchikan, Alaska, and has reported for the Jackson Hole Guide, the Idaho Falls Post Register, the Anchorage Daily News and the Chicago bureau of The Associated Press, and was city editor of the Juneau Empire.
