Did EPA Hide Atrazine Risks?

EPA is explaining to Congress this week why it didn't warn people in four states that levels of the weedkiller atrazine in their wellwater were well above levels considered safe.

The story was uncovered by a new watchdog on the environmental journalism scene, the Huffington Post Investigative Fund. Reporter Danielle Ivory revealed that "the herbicide atrazine has been found at levels above the federal safety limit in drinking water in at least four states. The chemical has been studied for its potential link to breast cancer, prostate cancer, and birth defects, and the EPA considers it to be a potential endocrine disruptor. It is banned in the European Union."
