Terri was a member of the Winnebago tribe of Nebraska and a long-time journalist, covering environment and science, tribal and Indigenous issues, climate adaptation and resilience for Indian Country Today, High Country News, The Revelator, Yes! Magazine and more.

SEJ members remember her as a welcoming, good person, including Greg Harman who says "Terri was a powerful and big-hearted truth teller. As a freelancer she was generous with her knowledge and her relationships with editors. As a friend she was limitless in her kindness and compassion. She loved her work and fought through more than her share of hardships to tell the stories of others who suffered, always in the hopes of realizing justice for individuals and communities so frequently overwhelmed and exploited. If it sounds like I'm describing a saint, it's true that there was a bit of that in her, too. She brought a lot of light to the world."

Read a September 18, 2023 excerpt, Chapter 12: A Resilient Community written by Terri, from the new book "Canopy of Titans: The Life and Times of the Great North American Temperate Rainforest” by Paul Koberstein and Jessica Applegate.
