#SEJSpotlight: Bennet Goldstein, Investigative Reporter, Wisconsin Watch

#SEJSpotlight graphic for Bennet Goldstein

Meet SEJ member Bennet Goldstein! Bennet reports on water and agriculture as Wisconsin Watch’s Report for America representative on the Mississippi River Basin Ag & Water Desk — a collaborative reporting network across the basin. Before this, he was on the breaking news team at the Omaha World-Herald in Nebraska. Bennet spent most of his career at daily papers in Iowa, including the Dubuque Telegraph Herald. His work has garnered awards, including a Milwaukee Press Club award for an explanatory feature about the erosion of Ojibwe communities’ treaty rights due to environmental contamination and an NLGJA (The Association of LGBTQ+ Journalists) award for a feature about the resilience of Midwestern LGBTQ farmers. Bennet recently was selected to participate in the Solutions Journalism Network’s Climate Solutions Cohort and 2024 Metcalf Institute. He holds a master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Bennet also is a member of North American Agricultural Journalists and the Society for Features Journalism.

When asked how SEJ membership makes his job easier, Bennet said, "SEJ has made it possible to find a community of like-minded journalists who, I know, are just a mouse click away. If I ever need a source, nut graf polishing or story idea, I know where to go." Join us — apply for SEJ membership.
