Meet SEJ member Sebastián Rodríguez Vargas! Sebastián is a climate journalist based in San José, Costa Rica. He is currently the Special Projects Editor at Climate Home News, leading international investigations on climate accountability. He was previously Editor-in-Chief at Climate Tracker, coordinating international reports from emerging climate journalists, and former Editor of Ojo al Clima, the first climate news outlet in Central America. His work has been published in Science Magazine, Reuters, DW, The Verge, China Dialogue and Mongabay. Sebastián was the winner of Costa Rica's national environmental journalism award Huella Jaguar in 2019. He has been a Fellow of the World Federation of Science Journalists (WFSJ), the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) and member of the Latin American Network of Young Journalists, Mexican Network of Science Journalists and The Uproot Project.

When asked if he recommends SEJ membership to his colleagues, Sebastián said, "Yes. Connecting with SEJ's network is a chance to open new opportunities — whether it's learning resources, job openings, grant funding and more. But especially, it's important to keep in close contact with my peers and upgrade my own climate change reporting." Join us — apply for SEJ membership.
