Company Subpoenas Journalists in "Pink Slime" Suit

July 30, 2014

Five journalists have had their notes subpoenaed in a company's $1.2-billion defamation lawsuit against ABC News for calling its product, a common hamburger additive, "pink slime."

Attorneys for the company, Beef Products Inc., subpoenaed three journalists from the publication Food Safety News as well as one from the New York Times and food writer Michele Simon, in an effort to force them to turn over their correspondence with ABC News and other defendants.
