Investigative Reporters and Editors' second-annual online symposium, over two half days, will focus on diversity, belonging, equity and inclusion (DBEI) issues for newsrooms. Fellowships available; apply by Sep 23. SEJ is hosting a panel, "The work of environmental journalists of color in reframing the beat," on Oct 21.

This year-long, expenses-paid fellowship is for emerging and mid-career Indigenous filmmakers, offering artist development workshops (and $10,000 grant), training and networking at the Big Sky Documentary Film Festival, Seattle International Film Festival and the Camden International Film Festival. Apply by Nov 30, 2023.

The sixth annual SJF is a global event (in-person in UAE and hybrid) where science journalists, writers, publishers, scientists, students and academia can share new ideas and thoughts in science journalism — and pitch story ideas to the world’s top editors. Attendance fellowships available.

This year's One World Media summit, co-hosted by POPLab, takes place in London (ticketed; discounts for students) and Mexico City (free). Attendees can join the free livestream from anywhere in the world. Theme: Climate change and its impact on women and vulnerable groups in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The joint National Association of Science Writers and the Council for the Advancement of Science Writing annual event takes place this autumn in Chicago. For those not attending in person, virtual sessions take place Oct. 22-24. Grants available.

This four-week online Knight Center course is open to Latinx college and university students in the U.S. (and recent grads). Those who are interested in learning, as well as strengthening their reporting and storytelling skills for diverse audiences, are encouraged to apply. High school students with Native American heritage can spend Jun 11-15, 2023 at University of Kansas (for free!) learning online/digital news content creation, podcasting and multimedia journalism from Indigenous leaders working in media professions. In partnership with the NAJA and Haskell Indian Nations University. Deadline: May 25.
